Dr. Rad: Championing Ethical Reproductive Health with SEEDS Ethics

Dr. Rad’s Membership with SEEDS Ethics

In the ever-evolving landscape of reproductive health, the collaboration between obstetricians, gynecologists, and specialized institutions plays a pivotal role in ensuring patients are receiving the best possible care. Dr. Rad’s membership in The Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy (SEEDS) demonstrates his commitment to following the highest ethical standards, and protecting egg donors, surrogates, and intended parents.

How many people use donors or surrogates?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 2.3% of infants born in the US each year are conceived using assisted reproductive technology (ART) such as IVF (in-virto fertilization), sperm and egg donation, surrogacy, or embryo donation. About 2.5% of parents-to-be using ART used a gestational carrier.

The Family Equality Council reports that about 40% of LGBTQ+ couples use ART to grow their families.

According to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), over 20,000 donor eggs are used each year, with a 19% increase from 2020 to 2021.

As these numbers continue to grow, it’s important to have laws and ethical practices in place to protect all involved parties.

As a member of SEEDS, Dr. Rad has access to and advice on the latest ethical standards concerning third-party reproduction.

What is SEEDS?

SEEDS is a renowned nonprofit organization that has taken the lead in setting ethical standards in the sensitive, complex areas of egg donation and surrogacy. It was established in response to the growing need for guidance in the delicate field of third-party reproduction and advocacy for surrogates, egg donors, and intended parents.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has put forward recommendations for the evaluation of gamete and embryo donors and recipients. However, SEEDS focuses on education opportunities for members in addition to ethical business standards. SEEDS further emphasizes the importance of making sure “third-party reproduction remains a viable and obtainable family building option for generations to come.”

Members of SEEDS include medical providers, clinics, surrogacy programs, advocates, and surrogacy law experts and advisors.
